Well it is Independence Day.

Woke up again to glorious sunshine......gosh it's hard to get anything done when its like this. All we fancy doing is sitting in the sun with a cold drink and a good book! Del popped up to Braunston this morning for the Saturday papers, a treat when we can get them, and we enjoyed reading them over breakfast.

Being Independence day, we decided to celebrate with a tradition American meal of BBQ Burger and salad, finished with apple pie & cream....yummy. We heard on the news that the Statue of Liberty's 'crown' has reopened for visitors today, allowing people to climb the narrow staircase right to the top. It has been closed since the 9/11 attacks, and it's good news that it's open again. Closer to home, the other news is that the Pontcysylite Aqueduct along with several miles either side of it have now been officially named one of the wonders of the world and have been added to the World Heritage list. Great for British tourism and the canals in general.

In the afternoon, it was quite busy, and we enjoyed just watching the weekenders go by. We went for a circular walk into the local village of Willoughby and checked out the pub. It was a bit busy with pedestrians.

Its only a short walk over the fields to Braunston, so tonight we popped up to The Plough for a drink, as they had a live band playing. The band, Stiff Joints, were excellent, playing a mix of rock, new country and punk, and we had a really great night.
