Under the Hatches

When we arrived, we could see the lads working hard on the engine room. We were asked where we wanted the cleets for the bow and the Plank rack on the roof. The other thing we noticed was that the Radiators weren't fitted yet, but on speaking to Ken & Julia we soon found out that they were so heavy, all the plumbing had to be tested first before they could be installed. All this weight is so low in the boat, that it should'nt be a problem and should make the stability better on Derwent6. Won't be able to moor up without grounding though!!!!

On walking into the Saloon we could see the port side unit top had been fitted.

Nothing had changed in the galley, but on walking into the bathroom we were greeted with the shower.

We sorted out the bathroom mirror and lighting in this area, progress had been made but still alot to do..

At this point we noticed the Houdini hatches had been fitted and just looked fantastic... You can see this is fitted just between the shower and centre of the bathroom, which should help getting rid of the condensation in the area when vented.

Not much had been done in the bedroom but the engine room had vast improvements.

The first striking thing was the washing machine and tumble drier were in (but not fitted yet)

The floor had been fitted over the large waste tank and the silencer had been fitted to the engine.

On the exterior the Houdini's looked great with a few added touches.....

Did you notice the bathroom floor is not down yet?......that should be done next Friday....also the Morso stove has still not arrived, they maybe unpacking it, and Christmas is fast approaching
We can,t wait to get the signwritting done soon...
GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT!!! aghhhhhhhh
(and I nearly said "happy christmas")

Mops, poles and pins

Well!! We've been busy over the weekend painting the brass hook pole, the mop handle, and the mooring pins. We have also painted the windless.
We have now got a tin for the hot fire ashes, which we can put out in the cratch.

Blacking, Bathroom and Bikes

When arriving at Fernwood this week we were greeted by our bathroom shower unit being tested outside for leaks. Umm nice! This is done so that when this is fitted into Derwent6 there should be no problems behind all the panels and laminate.

The first thing we noticed was that the blacking had been done so the paintwork was nearing completion.
The bow looked great and the cratch doors had been fitted and oiled....

When walking into Derwent6 you could see that the brass porthole liners had been fitted and galley worktops had been oiled. Work had been done to the entrance and step. Some extra storage had been made here with access to the side and rear of all the electrical units.

When going into the bathroom, the sink had been fitted, the laminate to the roof had been done and as we said, Chris was working on the shower unit.

When moving into the engine room we could see alot of things taking place.... The wiring had now been done to the electrical panels and looked very neat.

The frame had been made up to fit over the engine cover and bring the floor level up with the stern deck. The cupboard framework had been done to check that the folding bikes fitted.

Fernwood have now got the TV and we have news that Andy the boat painter should be painting the boat on November 7th....Hopefully, there should then be some celebratory fireworks.
Watch this space!!!

Dayroom delight

As we walked into the workshop the first thing we noticed was that Derwent6 had been painted at the bow and below the gunnels. Also the white stripe had been painted on the stern.
On looking inside we could see Rob and Chris working on the saloon area and you could see that the upholstery had been fitted in the Dayroom. This was a mock up of how the hi-fi unit and cabinets will look in the saloon and also the fireplace area, but we still need to make some adjustment here so Rob is going to let us know after he has sorted out a few problems.

There has been some changes in design here because we have now decided to have just the one step down into the boat and make that one step a bit bigger, so it could also be another seat. (for when we have a party lol) This mean that the fireplace is now at floor level which will be better for the stability of the boat and give us a better draft on the chimney. We were pleased with the tiles which will look fabulous when varnished.

The first thing that strikes us is the warm cosy feel you get from Derwent6, it feels like home the minute you step on and Fernwood just let us live the boat for a bit as we made ourselves comfortable dreaming of being on the canal.

Going into the galley the next improvement we could see was the Dayroom upholstery, Merick had done a great job on the cushions and they looked really inviting.

As you can see Fernwood were doing a great job at turning Derwent6 into just how we wanted it to look and feel.

Remember these drawings that were done quite a while ago now.
While we sat on the Dayroom seating, Rob made a mock up of the table for us so we could check it's design and to see if it would be practical to turn into a bed base.
As you can see this design gives you enough room to get through to the bathroom with ease and will seat five comfortably.
In the bathroom, the sink units were being made and being installed. The toilet had also arrived so we should see some progress here on the next visit. The doors had also been fitted and the roof laminate was being put up by Chris while we were there.

The bedroom is all but complete, bar the radiators and the memory foam matress and side tables and as you can see, it looks very relaxing.

In the engine room there was still a lot of work to do, but the electrics had made a lot of progress with the 24 volt and 240 volt panels fitted.

While we were at Fernwood we got a call from British Waterways letting us know our new registration number,( how efficient is that) so Derwent6 is all ready for Andy the signwriter to muster up his magic.
We can't wait !!!!

Hide, Gas and Stable doors

Well when we arrived this time we were hyper ventilating because we saw the saloon four seater settee ( yes! four seater) having its leather cushions fitted. Also the side doors had been painted and the inner panel fitted which looked the nuts.

Merick had done a great job on the cushions and the quality looked fantastic. We wanted that phuffff feeling when you sat down in it, and boy that had been achieved, with everything looking and feeling just how we wanted it. It looked smaller in the boat, and made the saloon seem bigger, but as you can see with Julia and Al feeling comfortable, it will seat four people with ease. Under this will go two poofy's for putting your feet up, sitting on, and storage.
Also working hard was the gas man fitting the hob and cooker, which really looked good in the galley. We were glad that we have now had a full size hob as Al loves her cooking.
Simon had carried out a fantastic job on the bow stable doors which we loved, there is great attention to detail here.
Pete had done the cratch table which we had to check for size, and now we only have to check the height when the cushions are fitted.
Here are some of the motley crew at Fernwood checking out this blog, while having their lunch break.... Well done lads you deserve a rest, but now it's time to get back to work....
