Through the lakes to Ellesmere

We left our quiet little spot and headed across the Moss fields of Whixall. We passed in and out of the borders of Wales and Shropshire and soon got to the lake of Colemere. The canal skirts round the edge of the lake and you can just see it through the trees. It was lovely with the sunshine peeping through these trees.
We then go round the lake of Blakemere and you seem to get a lot closer with the canal on one side and the lake on the other. Then it was the short but tricky Ellesmere tunnel where you seem to stop with the force of the water on the way through. We soon got to the junction with the arm going into Ellesmere town centre. We were surprised that there was a big new Tesco's at the end, well it had been there for a year. There has been a lot of development going on around the basin and at the moment this is a 72 hour mooring. We were lucky enough to get a spot...We then had a walk around town and Del brought some wellies for a fiver. We hope that Tesco's wont force a lot of the shops to close, which would be a shame, but you never know, more bars and restaurants may develop. We got back to Derwent6, set up the telly and watched the Football in the evening......wish we hadn't bothered though!

You're doing a trip we did just a couple of weeks ago. Don't miss a trip down the Montgomery. It's beautiful, really quiet, and there's a great pub, the Navigation, at Maesbury Marsh. Well worth a diversion if you've got time (which I assume you have!)

Thanks Adam, we will definately try and go down there on the way back, it sounds lovely. We've just got to be mindful of the winter stoppages and where we need to be. Looks like you had a fab trip, we're really enjoying it.
