After Tooty came trotting back we undid the chains and headed through Snarestone tunnel.
It was another glorious day and quite warm for the time of year.. We thought the water levels were a bit better till we passed another boat and leant over to one side. We went through the wooded section and it seemed very pretty with the sun peeping through the trees.
We then approached Shackerstone and one mooring was available albeit on a bent bit. As we moored up the boat behind us pushed off so we pulled back to a nice straight section of canal.
We then took a walk along to the old Steam railway on the Battlefields line. It was closed but we managed to get some pics.
We walked into the village and couldn't walk past the Rising Sun pub for a quick one..
We carried on our walk round the village and tried the church, but it was closed, so it was back to Derwent6.
Al made a couple of phone calls and Del went on the hunt for wood.. He came back with a few seasoned fallen branches which he cut up and filled the locker with, nice!
Knackered! Del came and sat down to Al saying "Have you turned the water off". "No!" was the reply, "Well the taps don't work" Al said. "Oh Sh*t " Del said.. On checking the pump we found it to be under water together with the water gauge. (Who said this boating lark is easy)
So first we had to turn off the water feed from the tank and turn the power off to the pump. It took us four and half hours to get the water out using a cup and a bowl with a sponge and a towel. This wasn't the plan on a nice sunny afternoon.
Once it was dried out the water went back on and no leaks yet, then the power to the pump was turned on and a burnt wire was found. With a bit of a repair job to the wiring the pump burst into action, we had our water back.. The gauge was showing zero because it was under water, so with a quick clean out and some WD40 it started working again. Phew!
So where had the water built up from? We had this slight leak from the seal in the pump again when it was in use, (we have changed a pump with this fault before about five years ago) So we will be checking it tomorrow morning to see how bad it is..
We felt knackered after all this and hadn't eaten all day, so it was a quick cheese wrap and a hot chocolate and bed for us, as we think it might be a busy weekend..
